The club

History

Amsterdam Lions Lacrosse was founded in 2004 as one of the first few lacrosse clubs in the Netherlands. Up until now the game of lacrosse is widely represented in the Netherlands with clubs in cities throughout the country and has an official national lacrosse federation (Nederlandse Lacrosse Bond). Since 2007 a nationwide league has been incepted. In 2012 Amsterdam hosted the European Lacrosse Championships.

Competition

Amsterdam Lacrosse has five teams competing in the national leagues, two men’s and three women’s teams. The first men’s and women’s teams play in the first division, the second men’s and women’s’ team both play second division and the third women’s team in the third division. Our first men’s team has been national champion for six times: 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014. The ladies took the national title home for the third time in 2013.

Practice & fun

The Amsterdam Lions practice twice a week (Tuesdays and Fridays, 20:00 – 22:00 or Mondays and Fridays 20:00-22:00) and play games on Sundays (+- every other week). Also many social activities are part of the Lion experience, for instance ‘after practice’ drinks on Fridays.
