The club

History

Amsterdam Lions Lacrosse was founded in 2004 as one of the first lacrosse clubs in the Netherlands. Since then, the game has grown – lacrosse is now widely represented in the Netherlands with clubs in cities throughout the country, and an official national lacrosse federation (Nederlandse Lacrosse Bond). The nationwide league was established in 2007, and in 2012 Amsterdam hosted the European Lacrosse Championships.

Competition

Amsterdam Lacrosse has four teams competing in the national leagues: two men’s, two women’s, and one youth team. The first men’s and women’s teams play in the first division, and the second women’s team in the third division. The second men’s team plays combined with Amersfoort and Rotterdam in the second division. Our first men’s team has been national champion 11 times: 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 2014, 2015, 2017, 2017, 2019 and 2022. The first women’s team took the national title home for the fourth time in 2018.

Practice & fun

The Amsterdam Lions practice twice a week (Tuesdays and Fridays), 20:00 – 22:00 and play games on Sundays (+- every other week). Also many social activities are part of the Lion experience, for instance ‘after practice’ drinks on Fridays. The youth team practice once a week on Friday 18.15 – 19.45.
